CITES Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of 1973 CITES’s aim is to make sure that the international trade of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival International trade of species listed on by CITES is illegal unless a permit is issued (special circumstances)

Around 5,600 species of animals & 30,000 species of plants are protected under CITES from over-exploitation Adopted in 1963 at a conference (The World Conservation Union) U.S. Department of Agriculture is responsible for enforcing regulations International Agreement

Who participates? These are all of the countries that joined the convention. Is used by 180 parties
