Why do we Assess? “The primary goal of assessment and communication of student learning is to inform teaching and to promote student learning. Assessment shall be ongoing, meaningful, consistent and accurate for all students, embracing multiple forms of assessment as significant processes for student success in the 21st century. Regular feedback to students and parents is expected.” The next two slides go together: Draw attention to the BOLD words on both slides. AP360:

Do we still have a Report Card?
Definition of report card (Merriam-Webster Dictionary) 1 : a report on a student that is periodically submitted by a school to the student's parents or guardian 2 : an evaluation of performance Report Cards will still be available at the end of June, but can be found online, through PowerSchool, Anytime. Please pay attention to BOLD words. The BOLD words that define a report card do not reflect the BOLD words in our policy. Evaluation of performance vs. next steps to promote student learning We send out report cards 3x/year: early December, end of March, and end of June.

RVS Real-Time Reporting (Real-Time Report Card)
Give parents and students timely information, rather than information a few times per year. Informs teacher practice to improve student learning and student understanding of the curricular outcomes. Gives students the entire year to learn the curricular outcomes. Why move to Real-Time Reporting? Helps us make informed decisions about instruction to improve student learning and their understanding of the curricular outcomes Teachers are inputting information into PTP so creating a report card is redundant work.

RVS Parent Quotes “PowerSchool has been a great way to follow my kid’s progress and have knowledge about going into meetings about where my kid may be needing help. I check it regularly.” “It’s really great to be able to dive into the details of my kids’ grades and have more regular updates without waiting for report cards.” Focus on BOLD words If you want to print out entire parent quote page, use: Or

RVS Parent Quotes “The parent portal is a wonderful tool our family uses for both our sons at 2 different Rocky View schools. The portal allows us to frequently review our children's learning and to check assignments they have completed at school. I feel more connected to what my child is learning at school and I am able to help my children keep on track with their learning goals.” “Because we receive weekly updates automatically, the report card is somewhat redundant for us. We certainly appreciate the nice comments from teachers, but already receive those comments during parent teacher interviews. Thanks for asking me.” Focus on BOLD words If you want to print out entire parent quote page, use: Or

If your child says they don’t know it, add the word “yet”. This builds confidence that they will be able to accomplish it at some point in the future. I Can Statements help students focus on what they CAN do.
