Mothers gender attitudes predicted gender stereotyping in younger as opposed to older children.
Evans and Davies (2000)
Characters in books appeared differently depending upon sex

Children split into gender groups showed more gender stereotypical views

6. IDA Nature/nurture debate
Assessing the important of social influences (Nurture) Research shows that children are being socialised Into roles via formal and informal socialising agents.
HOWEVER… Difficult to assess the importance of social factors: no way to isolate nature from nurture.

11. Definitions
Culture- the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society
Cultural bias-  interpreting and judging phenomena by standards inherent to one's own culture. 
Cultural determinism- the culture in which we are raised determines who we are at emotional and behavioral levels. This supports the theory that environmental influences dominate who we are instead of biologically inherited traits.
Ethnographic approach - A qualitative approach that studies the cultural patterns and perspectives of participants in their natural settings
