Why IB: Teachers’ Perspectives
Challenging and stimulating courses that go beyond regular curriculum Better prepared for post-secondary education, both with content knowledge and with well-developed study skills Focus on skills & practice—IB students know ‘how to,’ not just ‘what’ Well-rounded students with strong critical- thinking skills
29
Why IB: Students’ Perspectives
I found that in IB I am participating in more community activities than I would otherwise—community work and clubs. I like how IB encourages me to work; it promotes independence and taking initiative.
30
Some of the classes are thought-provoking, creating discussions that are very in-depth. I also feel more comfortable expressing my ideas in IB classes. I like how IB promotes independent thought: commentaries and projects allow us to develop our own interpretation and to create our own approaches.
31
I find that IB moves through the subjects more quickly.
I like how the IB programme prepares us for university in terms of workload and independent thinking. I like that there’s never really a lull when you’re learning—there’s always something new to cover. I like how IB goes into detail with a lot of subjects—Biology, for example, you know a lot more than perhaps you wish you did.
32
I like that the teachers try to help you because they know how hard it is when you have all IB classes. I appreciate that teachers understand how much work we have. I found IB a little bit easier than regular classes because it’s very organized and the expectations are clear.
33
Generally, the kids in IB classes are more mature.
Since everyone in the IB community is going through the same thing, it is easier to make new friends. I like how all IB kids do the same thing so they’re together a lot and we are able to form a group.
