A Classroom Teacher can...
speak to colleagues about a student. conference with a student’s teacher from last year. learn what worked/what didn’t and why. Learn strategies from others as most teachers have a number of strategies to offer others.

Peers & Parents Often peers know more about what is causing a student to misbehave than parents. Peer pressure may help you. Use Parental Intervention not as a threat but as a support for student(s). Role model could be an Older Student, Favorite teacher? Others?

School Resource person
Most often a Special Ed. Resource person can help you to find a resolution to a problem or locate a coping strategy for a dilemma. Why not take Special Ed. Courses in behavior.

The IEP & IPRC/AEP/TAP Individual Educational Plan(IEP or IPP)
We can I.D. behavioral students at the school level and put school level supports in place. (Counselor, Sp. Ed. Resource person) IPRC = Individual Placement and Review Committee - More formal identification involving Social Worker, Board level people, Doctors (Mental, Physical), Religious Counselors, Parents, Guardians, etc.

Student Failure – Transition Plan? Grades 7,8,9,10,11,12
Failure to make friends, failing social skills, fail to meet personal expectations. Failure in class - academics Failure to succeed outside of the class - “geek, nerd, outcast, loner, loser, fag” are common terms peers use. What will you do when you here these labels in your class/what if you say nothing? Does that mean you think it is OK?

Referrals See an administrator or resource teacher to learn about the paperwork you need to complete to initiate a referral. School Board Psychologist - rare and spread very thin - 1:10,000 students common - or contracted as necessary Social Workers - same -Children’s Aid S.

Abuse Your Board will have a policy - find it, know it, use it - be proactive you could save a life! Legal issues!!! FOIP, etc. Child Abuse - emotional, physical, sexual, etc. Police have a role, provincial government social services have a role as does the federal government studies
