3 Why do we study social networks?
Definition from: A social network is a social structure made up of a set of social actors (such as individuals or organizations) and a set of the dyadic ties between these actors. Social networks and the analysis of them is an inherently interdisciplinary academic field which emerged from social psychology, sociology, statistics, and graph theory. From "Sociometric explorations reveal the hidden structures that give a group its form: the alliances, the subgroups, the hidden beliefs, the forbidden agendas, the ideological agreements, the ‘stars’ of the show". In social networks (like Facebook and Twitter), sociometry can help us

14 Directions Download the two attached files " _folders.py" and " _metadata.py" Open a terminal Go to the Downloads folder using by typing "cd Downloads" followed by enter. Run the first script by typing "python _folders.py" followed by enter Choose the folders you want to get information from by: Open the file " _folders.txt" in a text editor of your choice (note this is a file created by the previous python code) Each line as two pieces of information: the name of folder followed by a comma then the "label" as chosen by google's code. You can ignore everything after the comma Delete all lines that contain files that you do NOT want to process (e.g. if you don't care about spam s delete the line containing "SPAM, SPAM") Save this file (don't change the name) Now run the second script by typing "python _metadata.py" followed by enter - this code will be slow because google only lets you do a certain number of requests per second. As the code is running it will print out which folder it's working on and it will print out each time it has processed 1000 more s. You should now have a file named " _metadata<the-date>.csv" containing the information you want.

15 Departmental Analysis
I also could look at it by job codes, and not surprisingly educators and communications were my biggest users, but looking at by numbers not meaningful.. Looked at it by %
