3. Download your Rubric!
Before you start each Engagement, you will need to download a rubric!
Navigate back to the class website, hover over 7th Grade, at the very bottom click on “Rubric”

4. Download your Rubric! Click on “Download File”
Select “Open” at the bottom of the page
Save this rubric into your “Orientation” folder

Create a new Word document.
Put the following at the TOP:

6. Word Documents Requirements
The Word Document must be WHITE
The text must be BLACK
Fonts you may use
Calibri
Courier New
Times New Roman

7. Step #3
After your paper has your name and other info, your team will need to state your objective.
For this week it will be:
“My partner and I would like to learn about the STEM lab.”
As part of your objective you will need to summarize what you did daily. This is called the Daily Journal.
Mr. Ochs will always tell you when it is time to complete this.

8. Person of Interest
Your Person of Interest will be someone that is related to your engagement.
Go back to the class website. On the orientation page find the section on the Person of Interest and complete this portion now.

9. Pictures There are two methods of taking pictures in the STEM Lab.
Using a camera
Using the “Print Screen” feature on the computer
Go back to the orientation portion of the class website and find the PowerPoint labeled “Pictures.” Complete this portion now.

10. Stumped…? “Mr. Ochs, I have a question!”
That’s fantastic! However, look around the room, look how many students there are. Before asking Mr. Ochs your question, try the “Three before me” rule!
Try and solve the question in three different ways, before asking Mr. Ochs.

11. Three before me rule
Different methods you could try before asking Mr. Ochs for help:
Reread the directions or the PowerPoint
Maybe you just missed a step!
Asking the team that finished the engagement before you
They probably figured something out!
Search the internet
The problem you are facing, someone else has faced before. See if the answer to your question is on the web somewhere!
Check the class website! There are videos with some of the most common questions.

12. Engagements Look at the 21 different engagements.
With your partner list the top 3 engagements you’d like to do.
Write at least five (5) sentences for the one (1) you’d like to do the most. Think about what you think you’ll learn and do in this engagement.

13. Questions Copy the question and answer them in your Word Document.
Explain why is it not possible for you to take pictures on the last day of an engagement.
Describe how to take a print screen.
Summarize where you go to find pictures you took with the camera.
In your own words, describe what the “Three before me” rule is and how to use it.
Describe the Person of Interest section.
Where do you go to find them? What do you write about them? What website should you never use to look up information about them?

14. Conclusion
Your conclusion is the last and final thing that should be typed on your Word document.
This is a detailed summary of what you learned and accomplished. It should not be an explanation of what you did each day.
In your Word Document, formulate seven (7), well thought out sentences about what you learned as part of the 7th Grade STEM Lab Orientation.
