Before we begin, let’s spend a few moments discussing how this course is designed. As you will soon find out, SCOoffice Server is built from numerous technologies (e.g. Postfix, Apache, ProFTPD, etc.). It is impossible to provide an in-depth exploration of any one of these technologies in a single day, let alone all of them. What this course strives to do is to explore the portions of these technologies that SCOoffice Server uses and to show you how to apply knowledge that you gain about these technologies. This course is designed with a task oriented focus – you will learn how to accomplish specific tasks that are useful for SCOoffice Server administrators. We will do this partly through lecture and partly through hands-on exercises.
Ultimately, this course is designed to prepare you to take the SCOoffice Server 4.1 certification examination. The questions in the exam are drawn from the subjects covered in this course. While it may be very useful as an administrator to study Postfix, Apache, ProFTPD, etc. in depth on your own, that level of study is not required to pass the certification exam.
The prerequisites for this class are as follows:
A familiarity with the Windows environment is required. Familiarity with Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Outlook is assumed.
It is assumed that students are familiar with administering the SCO OpenServer environment. Students must be comfortable with the command line interface, editing files using the vi(C) text editor, administering the system using scoadmin(ADM), performing administrative tasks without using scoadmin(ADM), changing kernel parameters, and relinking kernels. It is strongly recommended that students have completed:

SCO OpenServer Administration II (
Familiarity with TCP/IP, its associated protocols (e.g. TCP vs. UDP, HTTP, IMAP, POP3, SMTP, FTP, DNS, telnet, etc.), and its addressing (i.e. IP addresses, netmasks, etc.) are essential.
Completion of the three on-line training courses covering SCOoffice Server is a prerequisite.

5. How this Course is Designed
Course uses RFC2606 style domain names:

RFC2606 recommends using the domain names example.com, example.net, and example.org in documentation to avoid name collisions with registered domains. These course materials use these reserved domain names for that reason. To make it easier to distinguish one domain from the other, we have named the hosts in example.com after types of trees, the hosts in example.net after types of flowers, and the hosts in example.org after office supplies.
