Systems Analysis Overview
2
The Process Identify a problem with the current system or a business opportunity the current system is not capable of taking advantage of. Analyze the current systems rules and the “problem domain” (UML) Delineate the requirements of the new business system (what in detail must the system do.) (UML)
3
Process Continued Identify and detail multiple possible solutions (UML) Evaluate each possibility for feasibility and scalability (financial, resources, cultural) Select one solution to design and implement
4
Process Continued Design and test the solution (UML, Coding)
Train users Implement the solution Maintain it until a new problem or opportunity arises that requires starting the whole sequence over again
5
Notes: The process is iterative. You may find at any step that you need to go back and work through an earlier step again It is essential to document each step and each decision thoroughly Another large aspect of all this is project planning keeping track of resources, time and “critical paths”

Unified Modeling Language
The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a set of a half dozen or so diagrams and a constraint language which can be used to model complex systems and software in an object oriented way
