1 Processing Your College Applications
How to use Naviance Student for all things relating to college apps!

2 Transcript Request Forms NOW: Complete the front of the YELLOW Transcript Request form and submit to Mrs. Richards. The form must be signed by a parent (unless you are 18). This must be done before we send ANY transcripts. Form available on our website or in the Counseling Office.

4 Signed Yellow Transcript Form

5 LATER: When you start applying to schools, stop in the Counseling Office and add the needed information to the back of the Transcript Request Form. Your counselor will then send your transcript and other related documents in a timely manner. If you do not fill out the back of the form, no transcripts will be sent!

6 Your transcript request must be submitted at least 10 school days prior to any deadline.

7 Create an account for the Common Application, as many schools (including UConn and ECSU) use this service.

8 There are NO PAPER Common Applications.
If you are applying to an institution that requires the Common App, you MUST apply electronically!!!

9 Write these in your agenda!!!
Once you set up a Common Application account, you will need to remember your Common App Password & Common App ID SUGGESTION: Write these in your agenda!!!

10 In order to process your common app, you must match your common app account to Naviance Student. The directions are in the blue box on the “colleges I’m applying to” screen.

11 You will not be able to MATCH Naviance Student with the Common App until you have completed the FERPA waiver on the Common App website!

12 Where to Find the FERPA Waiver on the common app

13 If you are not using the Common App for ANY of your schools, click on “I don’t need this” in the lower right corner of the matching screen.

15 Coalition Applications
There is another application system called the “Coalition for Access, Affordability and Success” This Coalition is a group of colleges and universities that have developed a website with a number of college readiness tools. MOST (but not ALL) institutions in the Coalition will still accept either the Common App or their own institutional applications. CHECK the list of schools on the Coalition website for more details. The website for the Coalition is PLEASE SEE YOUR COUNSELOR IF YOU ARE APPLYING USING THE COALITION APP!

16 RECOMMENDATIONS ASK teachers for recommendations personally, then add in “Colleges I’m Applying To”.

18 SELECT YOUR TEACHERS

19 SELECT WHICH COLLEGES YOU WANT THIS TEACHER TO SEND RECOMMENDATIONS TO.
YOU WILL HAVE THE CHOICE OF SPECIFIC COLLEGES OR ALL COLLEGES YOU ARE APPLYING TO.

20 Be sure that all the colleges you are applying to are entered on the “Colleges I’m Applying To” screen.

21 Applying to mcc If you are planning on attending MCC, or any of the state community colleges, you do not need to apply until the end of January. MCC does have both an electronic application (usually available at their website late January) and a paper application. You will still need to follow the process we have described when you apply.

22 College Rep Visits The list of colleges visiting THS is also in Naviance Student under the “Colleges” tab. Scroll down to the bottom left.

23 COLLEGE FAIR!!! There will be a COLLEGE FAIR at Rockville High School on Thursday, October 4th from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

24 Your Admission You may want to create a new address to use for the college application process if your current address is very long, subject to error, or questionable.

25 SOCIAL MEDIA Many colleges and universities do check social networking pages. …Although social networking sites could have a positive impact on admission, it has had a higher percentage of negative effects……
