Presentation on theme: "Design Process Identify the problem. Collect information."— Presentation transcript:

1 Design Process Identify the problem. Collect information.
Develop possible solutions. (isolate and detail) Choose the best solutions. Implement. (Model/prototype) Evaluate

2 Robotic Hand Using the design process; design, construct and test a Robotic hand to complete a series of tasks. Materials: card board, paper board, or foam tray, 5 rubber bands, 5 straws, string and paint sticks. Tools: scissors, ruler, school glue, tape (temporary hold) Testing: Give the “V” sign, touch each finger to the thumb, pick-up a tennis ball or similar object.

3 STEP 1 – Identify the problem
In your design notebook, restate the design challenge in your own words

4 Page 2 – Step 2 (Copy questions) Leave room for answers
How does the hand work? What is the musculoskeletal design of the human hand? How do robots work? What are the basic components of a robot?

5 On the back of page 2 Trace your hand
Label: phalanges, meta-carpals, carpals, ulna, radius and ligaments USE DIFFERENT COLORS AND INCLUDE A LEGEND

6 On the front of page 3 Trace your hand
Using the materials listed, draw your plan for making a robotic hand. Label each part.

7 Journals Begin journaling on the back of page 3. Date each journal
Include 2-3 sentences about what you were able to accomplish today on your project.

8 When clean-up is called:
Stop working Organize materials on desk Throw away trash Push in chair Stand behind chair Wait to be dismissed from station Ruler on the right. Scissors on the left.

9 During Clean-up After you have been dismissed to your desk:
Complete your journal: Today I… Take out your stamp card.

10 Step 6 – Final Reflection
In your own words, using complete sentences explain how you used the problem solving process to develop your solution. (Go through the process step by step) Did you complete the project? What do you like best about your project? What do you like least? What would you do differently?
