Connecticut Founder: Thomas Hooker Year: 1639
Who colonized: Followers of Thomas Hooker Reason: Thomas Hooker and his followers were frustrated with their inability to find good land in Massachusetts and by the requirement that one must hold stock in the Bay Company in order to vote Major works/events: Fundamental Orders of Connecticut – America’s 1st written constitution Type of Government: Representative assembly: all adult men were allowed to vote for Governor and the General Court (legislature)

New York Founder(s): Originally the Dutch and it was called New Amsterdam. James of York (English) Year: 1614 but in it was taken over by the English in 1663 for fear that English colonist would smuggle goods out of New Amsterdam and not pay British taxes. Who colonized: Fur traders Reason: Fur traders Major works/events: The Dutch allowed people of all nationalities to settle so we see the first Jewish settlers and 1000 slaves.
