1 Channel list request/response for multiple geo-locations

2 Nov 2010 Summary This document provides a proposal to adapt the ongoing af project to include the multiple geo-location channel loading capability as specified in the FCC document Yohannes Alemseged, NICT

3 Discussion: What is stated in the rule
Nov 2010 Discussion: What is stated in the rule A Mode II personal/portable device may load channel availability information for multiple locations around, i.e., in the vicinity of, its current location and use that information in its operation. A Mode II TVBD may use such available channel information to define a geographic area within which it can operate on the same available channels at all locations, for example a Mode II TVBD could calculate a bounded area in which a channel or channels are available at all locations within the area and operate on a mobile basis within that area. Appendix B Final Rule, Page 75 Yohannes Alemseged, NICT

4 How to do it Nov 2010 Identify the current geo-location
Select multiple geo-locations in the vicinity of the current geo-location (a range that includes multiple geo-locations) Provide the multiple geo-location including the current geo-location to the database Obtain channel list tagged to each geo-location submitted Define an operating geographic area in which overlapping available channel lists are found and store the operating geographic region along with the overlapping channel lists. Use the overlapping channels along with the stored operating geographic area during operation with in the bound of the operating geographic area without querying the database at most until the 24hr database access requirement expires The device should re-recheck its position every 60s and if the location is detected to be outside the stored boundary of the operating geographic area, the device must contact the database to obtain a valid channel list for that area. 5 How to determine vicinity geo-locations around the current location
Nov 2010 How to determine vicinity geo-locations around the current location A 200m B I C D E F G H Illustrative example I Location A is the current location of the Mode II TVBD Locations B,C,D,E,F,G,H,,I are selected in such a way that the required operating geographic area is obtained, illustration is based on Cartesian coordinate. Geolocation information in af is provided in LCI This approaches may require higher overhead since each LCI requires 16 octet Yohannes Alemseged, NICT

6 How to determine vicinity geo-locations around the current location
Nov 2010 How to determine vicinity geo-locations around the current location Illustrative example II Location A is the current location and it is specified by LCI as with in +-50 resolution Location B is the vicinity geo- location around location A (including location A) Two location information is required. One for the current Geo-location information and the second geo-location with similar content like the current geo-location but with a higher resolution We use this approach to include the Multiple geo-location channel list since it requires less overhead A: current geo-location B: vicinity geo-location Yohannes Alemseged, NICT

7 Scenarios for using multiple geo-location channel loading
Nov 2010 Scenarios for using multiple geo-location channel loading Mode II device Database Mode II/Fixed device Direct access to database Indirect access to database Yohannes Alemseged, NICT

8 Nov 2010 Proposal to incorporate in af the multi geo-location channel list request /response capability Request database for multiple geo-location channel list availability Multiple geo-location channel list management information element Multiple Locations Channel List Management Information element format Information fields Current Geo-Location: refers to the geo-location of the STA represented by LCI with in accuracy of +-50 meter as specified in the resolution bits of the LCI. WSM1: refers to the available channel list valid for the current geo-location specified Vicinity Geo-Location: refers to the geo-location of the STA around the current geo-location of the STA. It is represented by LCI with in accuracy of less than +-50 meter WSM2: refers to the available channel list valid for the vicinity geo-location specified Length: the repetition of LCI and LCI ID pair Element ID Length Current geo-location WSM1 Vicinity geo-location WSM2 Octets 1 16 variable Yohannes Alemseged, NICT
