According to students, the scrapping off of meals in halls of residence, suspension of evening classes, plans to phase out end of semester exams, increase of tuition among others triggered them to strike.

13. Poor Sanitation in halls of residence
Halls in Makerere University are at their worst. There is hardly any shower room or toilet that is usable. The most annoying thing is that the hall administrators try to depict themselves as committed, yet they have failed to perform.
