1 What if? 3D Geospatial Modeling & Simulation Summit
100th OGC Technical Committee Orlando, FL USA David Graham 19 September 2016

2 OBW 2017 Needs Terrain Data ‘Coalition of the Willing’; LVC Interoperability Demonstrations held during NTSA’s I/ITSEC Conference, in Orlando, in December each year (re) Started last December (2015) In December 2016 OBW will use the same terrain (Mission Area) database from 2015, primarily because of the cost and complexity of integrating new terrain databases According to a presentation at last week’s SISO SIW by Kent Gritton (OBW Director), OBS 2017 (to be held in December, 2017) has an objective to create and use a new Mission Area

3 Some unconstrained possibilities
OBW should plan to provide terrain and 3D object data ‘in the normal’ way, to mitigate any risk An OGC Interoperability Experiment? Framework for experimentation and technical documentation OGC Members; sponsors, open interaction with SISO, USGIF, NDIA/NTSA/I/ITSEC Source Data possibilities (NGA, OS, Digital Globe, others) ‘Refined Source’ data exports possible At several process points in the RIEDP Process Model NPSI, AFCDS, SE CORE, LTF, other possibilities OGC CDB datastore, available directly through real-time API and through J7 TGS geoserver OGC Web Services A driving objective from the beginning of the IE: produce Change Requests to SISO and OGC standards after OBW 2017 is conducted

4 Crowd interaction / crowd sourcing
Anyone at I/ITSEC with a mobile device could potentially interact with the terrain data R&D prototype for BYOD mobile interaction Microsoft Azure Cloud About 4TB of OGC CDB data Changes-over-time made by run-time simulators connected to this datastore can be seen in the mobile website No restricted/government/FUOU data in this demo Very low overhead connection, using OGC Web Services, for others at I/ITSEC who are not full OBW participants, but for whom the OBW context adds value to their products and/or services

5 What do you think? Disciplined experimentation to stress test, update and change standards; discover different interpretations; maybe propose new standards to fill gaps; A very public and fixed series of demonstrations of the terrain data, in the LVC context, in the not-so-distant future, to focus our minds A Coalition of the Willing to support the OBW Coalition of the Willing Resources:
