5 How to Apply for Community Scholarships
Step 1: Go to Click on the Scholarship Application Link Create an account. READ the Instructions page Generate a “Preview” application

Step 2: Complete a “rough draft” of the application (this will take several hours) Gather addresses, tuition costs, financial data Be ready to report on student’s involvement, accomplishments, awards and honors (see Cheat Sheet)

9 Step 2 (continued): References
Make sure to ask the person before they are listed as a reference. Please note: As soon as your reference information is inputted, a request is sent to them immediately. Vary the sources of your references (i.e. a teacher, an employer, a neighbor or business leader, etc.)

10 Step 2 (continued): Essay Essay Topic
Write a rough draft and have someone else proofread it. Do not sign the essay. Make it unique about this student. Why should this student be selected? Essay Topic words What do you want to do with your college degree after you graduate? HINT: Write the essay in WORD and copy/paste into the field. (increases accuracy)

Step 3: After completing the rough draft, print off a copy of the application and proofread application, make any corrections before submitting. Step 4: Before submitting, complete checklist and print off a copy for your records

A hard copy of the “signature page” must be turned in to the Scholarship Office no later than: October 22, 2015 by 4:00 p.m.

16 Applying for Community Scholarships
Scholarship list is updated weekly. Students may check new postings on-line Students may come by the Scholarship office to pick up a hard copy Students check list for criteria to determine for which ones they can qualify. Watch deadlines Watch additional requirements

18 How to Apply Most National and College level scholarships
Apply through the website posted Most Regional and Community level Apply through Scholarship office unless otherwise noted STUDENTS MUST INFORM the scholarship office for which community scholarships they want to apply. Any additional requirements from the donor will be disclosed at that time.

19 What do Donors Look for? Criteria (G.P.A., ACT, financial or merit based, class rank, coarse load, etc.) Extra Curricular Activities (athletics, music, etc.) Leadership Roles (positions held, for example Student Council President) Volunteerism Letters of Reference

22 Fun Facts Last year several hundred Community Scholarships awarded to RHS students = ~ $300,000. Graduates of the Class of 2015 were offered over $12 million in scholarships!!!!
