THE GOOD AND BAD OF MAKERERE UNIVERSITY

INTRODUCTION Established in 1922 as a humble technical school, Makerere University is one of the oldest and most prestigious English Universities in Africa. In 1949 it became a University affiliated to the college of London until July 1, 1970 when Makerere became an independent University of the Republic of Uganda.

Conducive learning environment. Makerere University has one of the best learning surrounding with well stocked Main Library, college and school book banks, and clean facilities. Mak Main Library

Good continued… Excellent center for research. Makerere University is one of the best research center in Africa and the world at large. That explains why it’s ranked the best University in the African continent. Good infrastructure to aid learning. The university occupies a large piece of land to accommodates its large population. Poor sewage lines in the halls of residence, especially halls like Mary Stuart, Africa and Nsbiriwa. This compromise the health of the students in the halls. Sewage line at Nsibirwa hall

Sex for marks. The request for sexual favor by lecturers in the University has questioned the credibility of Makerere as center for academic excellence. The recent sexual scandal involving a student and a lecturer in the college of computing & information sciences has tarnished the image of Makerere University. A Lecturer romancing a student

Bad continued… Rampant strikes especially by students. This is mainly due to lack of students inclusion in the decision making process.

CONCLUSION Despite the negative side of Makerere University, its still remains one of the best universities in the world WE BUILD FOR THE FUTURE
