4 Homes The Seminole dwellings were called chickees
The houses were made to protect their dwellings from the swamp

5 Food & Hunting The Southeast natives ate a variety of food, including deer & fish They grew ferns, cypress, palmetto trees, corn, & pumpkins They hunted snakes & alligator for their skin and valuable uses

6 Clothes Women wore deerskin leggings, long skirts with puffy blouses, and wore bead necklaces Men wore knee-length shirts & leggings

7 Choctaw Facts The biggest one is Nanih Waiya Mound
When the Civil War broke out, the Choctaw Indians sided with the Confederacy When the South was defeated, the Choctaw were robbed of their cattle Like Cahokia, they built mounds The biggest one is Nanih Waiya Mound

8 Seminole Facts Lived in present-day Florida
Built canoes (transportation uses) Lived in villages (present day Florida Everglades) Built chickees to use for storehouses In 1917 the U.S. army fought for Florida and the Everglades were burned down and forced the Seminole Indians out of Florida

9 Creek Facts Lived in present-day Alabama & Georgia
Villages spread out along rivers Rivers in western Georgia and eastern Alabama

10 Transportation walked by foot In wars on horseback
ride in canoes in water

11 Seminole Origin story At one time, the world was covered in water. There was no land. One day, a turtle swam to the top of the water. The turtle floated on the water. But he became tired. The Breath Maker saw the tired turtle. He felt sorry for him. The Breath Maker gave the turtle a resting place on the water. The turtle rested. He took deep breaths of air. The gulps of air made his shell crack. People came out of the cracks. That was how the earth began
