Pressure Water Reactor Water in the primary system never boils Primary water is around 550°F & 2200 PSI Three separate water loops that should never come into contact with each other Has huge heat exchangers called steam generators Reactor control rods enter from the top of the reactor vessel

Boiling Water Reactor Water in the reactor boils and the steam that drives the turbine has been in contact with the nuclear fuel Has only two independent water systems Much smaller containment building General Electric design Has recirculation pumps Reactor control rods enter from the bottom of the reactor vessel
