Boycott: to refuse to buy or use a product to make a point Colony: a place ruled by people in another country **Diligence: working hard for a long time **Liberty: freedom from control by another Protest: an event at which people speak out about an issue Tax: money people pay to a government in return for services Born in 1735 Born in Boston, Massachusetts Paul’s father taught him how to be a silversmith. He made items like: buttons, belt buckles, and tea pots. Revere joined a group called the Sons of Liberty (Patriots). They believed that the colonies should be free from British rule. 1

2 Revere and other colonists boycotted taxes by refusing to by the taxed goods
Revere helped plan the Boston Tea Party where the colonists protested the tea tax by dumping British tea into the harbor. Paul Revere started a new job as a mail carrier for the leaders of the colony. His job was important because he carried important letters. In April 1775, Paul Revere rode his horse through the colony at night warning the colonists that the British were coming. This was important because the British soldiers were trying to sneak up on the Patriots. The next morning there was a battle in Lexington that started the American Revolutionary War. When the war ended the colonies had gained their independence and formed a new country: The United States of America!
