What Can Skype for Business do?
Instant messaging means an instant answer It provides an alternative to for quick questions and comments See where your colleagues are and if they are available. Your status and availability can be linked to your Outlook calendar Communicate with a group of colleagues using instant messaging, voice and video calls Take your meetings to the next level Easily share files and even your desktop Hold an online meeting with PowerPoint slides or work collaboratively on a whiteboard.

Your status information
Using Skype for Business: The Main Skype for Business window When you open Skype for Business, the main Skype for Business window displays: Your status information If you have uploaded a photo to your Office 365 profile, it will appear here with a coloured icon indicating your availability. Enter text above your photo to let others know what you are up to, change your availability using the drop-down menu or add your location. Tools and communication Contacts Conversations Meetings Main viewing & interaction area changes depending on the tool you are using Options menu Close, sign out or exit Change Settings for: Login Contact Display Your Status Showing/ hiding your picture Audio and video devices NLBP

Using Skype for Business: Contacts
When you first start using Skype for Business, it is worth investing some time setting up contacts and groups so that you can easily communicate with people that you frequently interact with. Finding and adding contacts In the Skype for Business main window, enter the person's name in the Find someone search box Right click the contact in the result list, and click Add to Contacts List – you are then given options of adding to a specific group

Using Skype for Business: Contacts Creating a Group In the main Skype for Business window, click the Add a Contact and then select Create a New Group Alternatively, right-click any group name in your contacts list (e.g. Other Contacts) and then select Create New Group A New Group box will appear – name your group by overwriting the text so that the new name is meaningful to you and press [Enter] Your group has been created and you can start adding contacts to it

Using Skype for Business: Instant Messaging
Start an IM conversation You can have an IM conversation with one person or many, attach files, images or add audio or video. Search for the person you want to send an instant message to Select one of the communication options Type your message at the bottom of the conversation window If a person’s status is set to Do Not Disturb, your message will not be sent Press [Enter] to send your message or click the ‘Send’ icon To send a file or an image, drag and drop a saved file into the text input area – you can also send a file by clicking the paperclip and browsing to the file you want to send

Using Skype for Business: Instant Messaging
Holding an IM conversation with more than one person You can have an Instant Message (IM) conversation by selecting multiple contacts or a contact group from your Contact List. If you have already started an IM conversation, you can add others to it. IM Adding others to an existing IM conversation Drag their picture from your contacts list into the conversation window or if they are not in your list Click the Invite More People button at the top of the conversation window to display the directory To display the list of participants and the Invite More People button, click the Open Participant List hyperlink Click and drag their picture from your Contacts List into the conversation window If they are not in your list, click the Invite More People button to display the directory You can easily start a new IM conversation with a group that you have already set up. Right click the group name in your contacts list Select ‘Send an IM’ to start the conversation – your message will go to all group members Send an IM to multiple contacts To send an IM to multiple contacts, hold the [CTRL] key down to select the contacts from the list Right click and select Send an IM - the conversation window is opened and you can start to send instant messages

Competition outline ‘Skype bingo’
Competition: Teams of up to 10 ppl for Skype Bingo – so will need to register team by a certain date. Must take screen shots of at least 5 activities. Winning team gets pizza for lunch! Time is running out to collect your headsets
Distribution of headsets for Skype telephony ends 31 July. If you haven’t collected your headset already please collect by the end of July. See the TW3 microsite for collection times and locations.
