If you do not have this information, please contact Melissa Suttles in the Student Services Department ext. 2243 Course Descriptions Be sure to read carefully the prerequisites and recommendations as listed The online registration will be open to current Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors on Thursday, January 4, The window will close on January 11, 2018 at midnight. After this date, the counselors will be reviewing your information and meeting with individual students to make sure all of the information is accurately entered. *Counselors will meet with students based on when a student returns his or her course selection form.

10 New Courses Available for 2018-19
AP Computer Science Principles Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I 306 AP Computer Science Principles offers a multidisciplinary approach to teaching the underlying principles of computation. The course will introduce students to the creative aspects of programming, abstractions, algorithms, large data sets, the Internet, cybersecurity concerns, and computing impacts. AP Computer Science Principles also gives students the opportunity to use current technologies to create computational artifacts for both self-expression and problem solving. Together, these aspects of the course make up a rigorous and rich curriculum that aims to broaden participation in computer science.

11 New Required Course For the Class of 2020 and Beyond
Civics Prerequisite: Required course for Juniors only Civics 436 is a semester course that will emphasize the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will prepare young people to be competent and responsible citizens throughout their lives. The course will focus on the major themes of government such as the United States Constitution, civil liberties, citizenship, voting, state and local government, foundations of government, different political systems, and the government and economy. Finally, the course will focus on the discussion of current and controversial issues, service learning, and simulations of the democratic process. The Constitution test for graduation will be administered in this class. For successful completion of the course, students will be required to do a lot of reading and writing for the course and be able to debate issues while maintaining a civil attitude towards differing viewpoints.
