The Flanker Task A Demonstration
2
What you’re about to see is a quick depiction of how the Flanker Task was conducted. Each subject participated in the experiment in blocks of 32 trials. The subject was asked to first focus their attention on a fixation point, affixed a ½ degree below the target letter yet to be presented, and after a delay of 1 second, the target letter appeared, either alone or with a series of “flanker” letters. The subject was asked to identify whether the target letter was an H or K, S or C, by pressing a left or right lever. The subjects’ responses were timed, and upon the identification of the target letter, a new trial would begin.
