3 Advertisements, what do they really do to us
Advertisements, what do they really do to us? Do they just inform, or is there a subliminal purpose behind them? Did you think of perfume or did you think of sex? Did you even pay attention to what you were thinking at all?

4 Ads have been manipulating, and deceiving us through ways that we can’t even acknowledge. They tap into our minds and our vulnerable side of our nature. Not only that, they feed us a goal and empower us to chase after it. Advertisements can be used to inform the public about products in a fair way, but instead a vast majority intrude our lives and manipulate our choices in favor of higher chances of profit. Some of the techniques they use are: sexual attraction, gaze, and interpellation.

5 A Little History 1704 The first newspaper advertisement, an announcement seeking a buyer for an Oyster Bay, Long Island, estate, is published in the Boston News-Letter.

6 What do all these ads have in common? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
The first television advertisement was broadcast in the United States on July 1, The watchmaker Bulova paid $9 for a placement on New York station WNBT before a baseball game. In 2012 advertisers spent an estimated $63.8 billion on TV ads alone, and continues to increase. What do all these ads have in common? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

7 Profit/Sales Don’t ever forget that the only soul purpose of an ad is to profit off of you , my innocent consumer friend.

8 Remember? Distraction/Attraction
Think about it; If you could keep in mind that all advertisers want from you is your money, you could make a better judgment over any product. How is it that we keep on forgetting this? Because they know what they’re doing! Distraction/Attraction Remember?

9 Got Milk?

10 She Does! Sexual connotation: it’s obvious that her expression resembles a sexual kind of ending ;) Right? Gaze: It draws a male sensibility directly to the milk spilling out of her mouth Color:Good vs. bad, black is bad, white is milk

11 Happy Meal!

12 Not So Happy! Colors: Red and yellow are colors for fun, vitality, hunger, happiness… Interpellation: Innocence, harmless fun and food…Really? Gaze: Happy children means happy moms

13 Convinced? PROFIT & GAIN
At this point we can see that ads are deliberately trying to manipulate the populous with tricks such as sexual attraction, innocence, and interpellation. All with one purpose: PROFIT & GAIN
