“Would I have to do this all by myself …….?”
The Project Team “Would I have to do this all by myself …….?”
2
Learning Objectives: By the end of this topic you should be able to:
list the members of a project team, identify the roles and responsibilities of the project team
3
Project Team project manager systems analyst systems designer
programmer tester
4
Project Manager assembles the project team
selecting individuals with the skills required for the project plans and controls the whole project identifying and rectifying potential problems sets deadlines so that the project is delivered on time ensures budgets are adhered to to prevent exceeding the cost agreed with the client ensure project reports & documentation are written up by co-ordinating the work of different teams determines when to move to the next step providing progress reports as the project develops
5
System Analyst investigates & analyses the current system
how does the current system work? where are the problem areas? determines the requirements of the new system by: interviewing the present staff sending out questionnaires studying current documents observing current system in action identifies alternative solution strategies compares off-the-shelf v custom-written solutions identifies software, hardware & storage requirements produces the Requirements Specification
6
System Designer responsible for the design stage for the new system
follows the requirements specification to produce the design specification produces designs for: user interface design (HCI) – menus, input & output screens content and layout the data structure – entities, attributes, keys ….. validation routines & error messages creates the test plan for the programmers & testers test cases & test data to be used during & after implementation
7
Programmers turn the design specification into a working system
often a team of programmers write the program code for the new system i.e. produces new software use the test plan to ensure that the code works perform system maintenance once the new system is operational create the technical documentation
8
Tester develop & use test plans find bugs in the new system
using a range of test data (normal, extreme and erroneous) find bugs in the new system try to deliberately ‘break’ the system! rectify errors (before the system goes ‘live’) usually in conjunction with the programmers record the results of testing
