2 A is for Abraham Lincoln
He was the president of the Union. He was the 16th president of the United States.

3 B is for Battle of Bull Run
The Battle of Bull Run was the first major battle of the Civil War . It was fought on July 21, 1861.

4 C is for Confederacy The Confederacy was the South and was for slavery

5 D is for Draft A draft is a selection of men who must serve in the military .

6 E is for Emancipation Proclamation
The document that stated that all enslaved people in the south were freed.

7 F is for Frederick Douglass
He published an antislavery newspaper, The North Star.

8 G is for Gettysburg Address
A speech to dedicate the Gettysburg Cemetery.

9 H is for Harriet Tubman Harriet Tubman was a spy, scout, and a nurse for the Union.

10 I is for Ironclad The Confederate army built the first ironclad ship the CSS Virginia.

11 J is for John Wilkes Booth
John Wilkes Booth was the person who assassinated Abraham Lincoln on April 14,1865.

12 K is for Ku Klux Klan The Ku Klux Klan terrorized African American. They wore white robes and white hoods.

13 L is for Robert E. Lee Robert E. Lee was a Confederate general.

14 M is for Malice The desire to harm. Lincoln encouraged America to put away their malice

15 N is for Kansas-Nebraska Act
The Kansas-Nebraska Act overturned the Missouri Compromise . This act used popular sovereignty . That meant that people –not the federal government-could vote or ban slavery.

16 O is for Northwest Ordinance of 1787
The Northwest Ordinance, officially known as the Ordinance of 1787, created the Northwest Territory, organized its governing structure, and established the procedures by which territories were admitted as states to the Union.

17 P is for New Political Party
The passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act led northern abolitionists to form a new political party the Republican Party.

18 Q is for Quarrel an angry argument or disagreement, typically between people who are usually on good terms.

19 R is for the Underground Railroad
 was a network of secret routes and safe houses used by 19th-century slaves of African descent in the United States to escape to freedom.

20 S is for Segregation Segregation is separation of humans into racial groups in daily life.

21 T is for The Fighting 54th The 54th Massachusetts regiment of the Civil War was made up entirely of African Americans, except for its white officers, and was the first African American fighting force.

22 U is for the Union The United States; especially the northern states during the Civil War, which remained with the original United States government

23 V is for the Battle of Vicksburg
a decisive battle in the American Civil War (1863); after being besieged for nearly seven weeks the Confederates surrendered.

24 W is for William T. Sherman
William Tecumseh Sherman, although not a career military commander before the war, would become one of "the most widely renowned of the Union’s military leaders next to U. S. Grant , and he burned from Atlanta to Savannah.

25 X is for Xanthorrhiza  was a medicine taken from a root. It was patented during the Civil War.

26 Y is for Yankee a native or inhabitant of New England

27 Z is for Zouave Union soldiers that wore foreign looking uniforms.
