3. Graduation Requirements
You are responsible to make sure you have the following compulsory credits for graduation:
English 11 English 12
Grade 11 Math Modern History 11
1 Science
1 Fine Arts/Life Role Credit
5 Grade 12 credits
17 credits in total
We will meet with each grade 12 student and review your transcripts with you after mid-term marks sem. 1.
***Make sure to tell them this doesn’t mean they have post-secondary requirements!

4. Learning more about options. . .
Check post-secondary school websites-best source of info-look under Admissions or Future or Prospective Students
Social Media: All schools are on all social media-follow the schools you’re interested in to learn more about them, student life, etc- Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc
Guidance office-view books, AARAO; you can stop by at lunch to view these or make an appointment
You can contact recruiters by phone or and have your questions answered
Book a tour!
Show books for AARAO and CUE and that they don’t need an appointment to stop at lunch and get recruter and admission contact info for institutions of interest at guidance.

6. Admission Information
Students must check to see that they meet the admission requirements and deadlines of universities/colleges of interest.
You should know right now if you have the courses you need to get into the programs of choice.
Students will be assessed based on sem. 1 marks and grade 11 marks for early admission.
Applications
Most have an on- line version for faster processing
For those students interested in residence a separate application is usually required, as if a separate fee.

Most are on-line
Application for Atlantic universities and colleges usually begin after semester one
Early admission: over 85% on entrance electives; often after mid-term
Ontario/BC universities can require earlier admission.

Gather info at Post- Secondary Expo and college visits
Discuss differences at different institutions. Some offer early admission, some don’t, etc. No stress-most apply in December/January and marks are sent after semester one grades are in. Early admissions are using predictions based on grade 11 marks, but you will still have to keep your grade 12 marks up. Some competitive faculties (engineering, nursing at some schools) wait until later spring before deciding on admissions. Schools like St FX that are in small towns might say apply early if you have the marks so you can apply for residence early and get the best spot to live. A lot to think about

Universities and colleges have internal entrance scholarships and larger scholarships that students should apply for if they meet the criteria

12. Social Media!!!
Follow scholarships and schools on all social media; Facebook , Twitter, Instagram
Up to date info posted on university visits, scholarships, contests, things going on at post-secondary institutions, deadlines, etc.
Can also follow schools and programs of interest

13. Transcripts
Available at the counter at Admin; students can stop by in the morning, at lunch or after school and request a transcript be sent or picked up
Can be mailed directly to the institution or scholarship address or picked up by the student
Request a few days in advance (we suggest three), especially at busy times of year such as right after marks come out.
Most schools prefer that transcripts are directly sent by the school. Students just come ask for these with a dollar. Parents do not need to book appointments or us for transcripts. Simple-you can do it

14. Student Loans Are meant to supplement income
