1
Chemical and physical weathering
By Sydney Sparger Mr.Limpert 4th period
2
Acid rain (chemical) Acid rain causes statues and buildings to wear away In the picture it shows the wall has faded its normal color
3
Acids in living things (chemical)
Acids in living this is created when living things leave acids behind and it creates something else In the first picture there is some lichens In the second picture its moss
4
Acids in air/rusting and oxidation (chemical)
Rust is a form of oxidation Rust forms by water and air acting on iron In the picture is a rusty IRON chain
5
Ice wedging (physical)
Ice wedging is formed when water gets into cracks in the rock and the temperature drops and it freezes and expands In the picture it shows the after effect of ice wedging
6
Wind abrasion (physical)
Wind abrasion happens when the wind blows dirt or sand against the rock and wears it down
7
Water abrasion (physical)
Water abrasion happens when rushing water runs on the rocks a wears them down to sediments In the picture it shows running water rushing over the rocks
8
Gravity abrasion (physical)
Gravity abrasion happens when GRAVITY takes rocks and rolls them down the hill At the bottom of the hill you will see sediments
9
Plant roots (physical)
Plant roots are powerful so they can crack rocks and weather them In the picture you will see big roots popping out
10
Animal burrowing (physical)
Animals can be part of weathering because ground hogs can burrow in the soil and ruin the soil In the picture u will see a cave looking thing that is an animals home
11
Weathering (physical) BONUS
Weathering is the breaking down of rock Rocks can start really big and over time turn into sediments In the picture it shows the after effect of weathering
12
Erosion (physical) BONUS
Erosion is the movement of rock by wind, water, ice, and gravity In the picture it shows water gravity erosion
