2. What is the Viking capstone?
From May 15, 2017 to May 31st, 2017, qualifying seniors are excused from classes in order to pursue a community service project or career development opportunity.
Students must complete a total of 65 hours at their host site over the three- week capstone.
To kick off the three-week experience, all capstone seniors will participate in an Induction service project. To close out the experience, all capstone seniors will participate in a Celebration Gala, to which the community, parents, and school will be invited.

7. eligibility
Grades, attendance, and discipline will determine a students eligibility to participate in the capstone.
A student may not have more than 4 absences per class
A teacher may determine on a case-by-case basis that special circumstances exist (such as medical absences) and grant the student eligibility to the capstone.
No review of teacher decisions beyond the individual classroom level will be available.

12. Reminders
Seniors in an SOL class must return from the capstone to take their SOL
Juniors who will be graduating with the class of 2017, known as a “double promotes,” might have to stay in their junior classes
If you are in AOS or Monroe you only need to do ½ the hours
Everyone needs to hand in all 4 forms, regardless if you are in a group.

13. sponsors
All participants are required to find both a community sponsor and a Loudoun Valley teacher sponsor for their project.
The community sponsor should be the person who will be responsible for guiding students during their three-week capstone experience.
The teacher sponsor may be any teacher at Valley with whom the student has a positive relationship. Teacher sponsors are the student’s support system from the school.

14. Remind APP
Remind will serve as the primary mass communication tool for the Viking Capstone, sending deadline reminders and updates.
The Viking Capstone team will also use Remind to communicate with individual students, small groups, and teacher sponsors.

15. Capstone and prime
The Viking Capstone Team will be utilizing PRIME to meet with seniors
The team will send out messages to individual students requesting their presence via the Remind app
Please use Remind App message requests as passes

The Viking Capstone team has created a handbook that will answer any and all questions and go into much greater detail about the capstone.
The handbook can be download off the “seniors” tab of the Loudoun Valley Website.
