2 October 23, Ms. Moreau Aim: How can we use direct and indirect quotes in our interview based report? Opening Task: Find the direct quote from the abridged article below. “Could you do 165 Push Ups? Samantha Myers is 16 years old. She says, “eat clean, train mean.”This idea helped her win a contest. She did 165 pushups to set a world’s record. She played volleyball, basketball and softball when she was young. She plays on her high school’s swimming and soccer teams now.

3 What’s the difference between a direct and indirect quote?
A direct quotation represents a person’s exact words. These words are enclosed in quotation marks. Example: Then she asked me, “Immaculeta Uzoma Achilike, do you know what your name means? An indirect quotation restates the general meaning of what a person said. Quotation marks are not used with indirect quotations. Example: She asked whether, I knew what my name means.

4 Agenda 1. Complete interview with partner
Write a brief report about partner, based on your interview. Your report should have at least one “direct quote”. Be ready to present partner to the class. On the other side of your report , take notes on the person being presented. Ms. Moreau will collect: your report, your notes on the people who were presented your paragraph from yesterday.
