Simile A comparison using “like” or “as.” “The houses were all jammed together like a row of birdhouses” (Creech 1). Meaning: The houses were tiny and very close together. Effect: I understand Sal’s discontentment with the homes in Euclid and how they are so close together and small. She prefers the open expanse of Bybanks.
