3
Quality and Safety. Why and How?
Quality and safety represents the management processes selected to enable compliance with standards of performance and the methods to routinely reassess the level of compliance. The improvement philosophy of quality and safety management targets the implementation of strategies for raising the bar in performance, not focusing on the deficiencies that need correction. The ultimate goal of quality and safety management is to improve the health of a population through identifying unwanted variation, instituting control strategies aimed at risk factors that affect the quality of care, and providing interventions that positively influence customer (patient) assessments of the quality of their care and their health outcomes.
