2 ADOPT-A-PRECINCT Purpose The Adopt-A-Precinct partnership is designed to provide community organizations and businesses with an opportunity to participate in the elections process in Orange County A great fund raiser – Supervisor of Elections writes a check to the organization as opposed to individual poll workers Promotes your organization or business within the community Great team building experience 2

3 History ADOPT-A-PRECINCT 1998 – implemented in Orange County
partner groups participated 2002 – 53 partner groups participated 2002 – Florida Legislature pass new legislation requiring all Supervisors of Elections across the state to develop similar relationships with the business community Chapter (6), Florida Statutes 2014 – Over $197,000 was distributed to 66 organizations participating in the Adopt-A-Precinct partnership 2016 Over $420,000 was distributed to organizations participating in the Adopt-A-Precinct partnership precincts were adopted in the General Election 3

7 ADOPT-A-PRECINCT Requirements AAP group will designate a AAP Coordinator who will work closely with an assigned Precinct Service Clerk (PSC) at the Election Office AAP Coordinator is responsible for: Submitting the AAP Agreement and other important paperwork in a timely manor Recruiting organization members to serve as poll workers; have them complete and sign a Poll Worker application (Ensure each recruited Poll Worker is eligible to serve as outlined below) Convey the importance of the commitment to fulfill Election Day responsibilities and obligations Verify Poll Workers attends training Poll Workers must be: An Orange County registered voter (HDOP excluded) 16+ pre registered ; only 2 under 18 can work at a time (limited positions) AAP Contracts – 12/21/2016 AAP Board Sheets – 1/4/2016 7

Supervises the Election Board Picks up supplies (Saturday before Election day) Returns supplies to collection site night of Election day Fill’s in for poll workers while on break/lunch/dinner Poll Deputy Background check - Must be cleared through the Orange County Sheriffs office Initially greets voters Maintains order “Outside” polling place Enforces 100 foot non-solicitation zone Assists with polling room set-up/break down 9

Responsible for setting up tabulator Responsible for setting up and utilizing ADA voting machine throughout the day Responsible for modeming results to Elections office Assists with polling room set-up/break down 11

12 Training Training is required prior to each election
ADOPT-A-PRECINCT Training Training is required prior to each election (Section (1) Fla. Stat.) New Poll Clerks – All day Saturday Class (includes lab and lunch) All other classes may be from 4 – 6 hours in length (Depending on assigned position) Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Saturday classes available Hands on training using actual election day equipment 12
