Integrating Science and Systemic Capacity Development for Impact: CCE
2017 Annual Meeting CapDev Session 14:00 – 16:15, Wednesday 18 October 2017 Contribution by Christopher Martius the “best way to combine the international ‘science’ and ‘development’ mandates is through scientific capacity development of staff belonging to national research and innovation systems” (Leeuwis et al, 2017). This session will summarize the findings, recommendations and gaps of the CGIAR CapDev evaluation prior to presenting four examples of CIFOR’s existing CapDev initiatives. This will be followed with a brief presentation of FTA II planned CapDev activities in including development of a CapDev Strategy, a typology of CapDev activities and a tool for Capacity Needs Assessment. The session will end with a Q & A discussion to identify ways to strengthen CapDev activities.

CarboScen Part II: Tools
Soft launch in mid-2016, with total viewer up to Dec 2016 = 53. Updated version launched in 2017; up to September 2017, total viewer more than 1,350 people. Part II: Tools In collaboration with the University of Helsinki, 3 trainings on CarboScen have been conducted in Mexico City (Mexico), Lima (Peru) and Jakarta (Indonesia). Next week, CarboScen training will be conducted in Hanoi (Vietnam).

Global Wetlands Map Part II: Tools
The Global Wetlands Map is an initiative to collect and share information on tropical wetlands in a visual format. Users can access data and contribute their own, using standard geographic information systems software such as ArcGIS.

LAND USE, CARBON & EMISSION DATA (LUCID)
Part II: Tools LUCID portal aims to provide better and more transparent global information on deforestation and drivers, (forest) carbon, land use change and greenhouse gas emissions to better understand and manage land change dynamics on multiple scales and to support climate change mitigation efforts.
