CONFLICT

2 CONFLICT Conflict is the struggle of opposing forces in a story. It is what creates the drama and action that moves the story from beginning to conclusion. Every story has conflict; without conflict, there is no story.

3 Internal conflict is another common conflict in literature.
Man Vs. Self (INTERNAL) Internal conflict is another common conflict in literature. This is often portrayed by a character fighting against his/her own conscience or moral beliefs, or struggling to make a difficult decision. Lady MacBeth

4 Man Vs. Man (EXTERNAL) The conflict between two characters is generally considered a conflict between one man and another man. This is the most common and most obvious literary conflict.

5 MAN VS. NATURE (EXTERNAL)
Man Struggling with a Boa Constrictor, Study for Liboya Serpent Seizing its Prey, c.1803 This conflict is portrayed when man fights against the forces of nature. This can be represented in several ways, possibly as man fighting an animal, or a natural disaster.

6 MAN VS. Society (EXTERNAL)
Man vs. Society is external and is the kind of conflict you find whenever man stands up to the society he lives in. Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat.
