Activation These changes are written in chronological order. Your task is to organise them in order of importance. Are there any others that you would include? In 1839 the Custody of Infants act was passed which allowed women to claim custody of young children following separation The Matrimonial Causes Act of 1857 introduced the possibility of a civil divorce, one which could be granted without an act of Parliament The Matrimonial Causes Act of 1857 allowed legally separated women to retain their earnings, giving them some control over their own income for the first time In 1878, London University was the first to award women degrees on the same terms as men. The Representation of the People Act (1918) gave women aged 31 and over the right to vote. The Equal Pay Act (1970) gave women equal pay with men in the same jobs The Sex Discrimination Act (1975) made it illegal to discriminate against people on the grounds of their gender.
