Understand the steps in the Problem Solving Process Explore ways to evaluate effectiveness of a strategy Understand how to use frequency data to look at the effectiveness of a strategy Discuss ways to involve families in determining the effectiveness of a strategy

4 Pre-Learning Assignment
Questions for Reflection: What was the behavior? How did you decide what strategy to put in place? Did you collect data? How did you know if the strategy was effective in decreasing the problem behavior? Did the strategy work? If not, what did you do?

5 Problem-Solving Process
Define Problem with Precision Evaluate Effectiveness of Instructional Strategy Explore Possible Solutions Collect and Use Data Choose an Appropriate Instructional Strategy Act on the Instructional Strategy

6 Duration Data Define the behavior Write down:
the time the behavior began the time the behavior stopped Calculate the length of the behavior

7 We have included an example of a Duration Data Chart on the slide for challenging behaviors that occurred when this child was having a tantrum. Note that the behaviors are specifically defined. Let us see how this data would look in graph form. What does this data tell you?
