1 Earth Science Ms. Rogers
September 9, 2015 Chapter 1 Section 2

2 Do Now Look at the object on the table closest to you, using the scientific method and your scientific mind guess what the object is, formulate questions and a hypothesis to aid in your experiment on these mystery objects.

3 Agenda Do- Now / Class Business
Standards, Learning Outcomes and Homework Scientific Method Review, Flocabulary Mystery Tube Complete paper and Drawing Clean- Up Exit Ticket

4 Standards ES- 6.7, 6.7a, 6.7c Students will begin their study of Earth science by understanding that all scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations to tray and answer the questions

5 Learning Outcome I can implement the skills that scientist use to learn about the world. I can explain what scientific inquiry involves. I can use scientific inquiry to conduct my own experiments.

6 Homework Vocabulary (key terms) (definition and relation) (p. 21)
Quiz will be on vocabulary from section 2 and 3 Study for Quiz, chapter 1.

7 Mystery Tube Using your scientist mind what questions would you ask about the object, how do you think it works? What do you infer about how it works, or what it’s parts do? Develop 4 or 5 questions that would help you run experiments on the object. What prediction can you make about how it works? Discuss / Introduce activity What is the mystery tube and how does the design on the inside help it function? Mystery tube activity and paper (2-4 persons) Paper needs a clear and understandable hypothesis Meaningful questions 8 or more (decide form your do-nows) Your experiment, what did you do, how did that help you understand what it was and how it works? Your results? (what happened? Why did it happen, was that what you expect to happen? ) Your conclusion ( is your hypothesis correct or incorrect, why do you believe it is correct?) Create a drawing of what you believe the inside of the tube looks like to enable it to work or function the way it does.

8 Due at the end of class Your scientific method fill in sheet, for all the member of your group. One paper outlining what you did to conduct your experiment, inclusive of your results. A drawing with what you believe the inside of the tube looks like.
