Mechanisms of Wind Erosion
Deflation Sandblasting
9
Deflation Deflation takes place in areas with small, loose sediments that are exposed to the atmosphere. Winds readily blows away loose sediment, lowering the land surface Lowering will continue until all loose sediment is eroded, leaving the bedrock exposed.
10
Sandblasting wind erodes sediment which strikes the base of rock outcrops, telephone poles, or anything standing in its way the base of the structure weathers more rapidly than the top! WIND ABRASION! Photographed in Tin Tarabine, Sahara Desert, southern Algeria.
