What’s wrong with these sentences?
Oozing slowly across the floor, Alex noticed the salad dressing after the cap fell off the bottle. Playing pool in the basement, nobody could hear the sounds of the game upstairs.

Misplaced Modifiers (MM)
A misplaced modifier is a word, phrase, or clause that is improperly separated from the word it modifies / describes. Because of the separation, sentences with this error often sound awkward, ridiculous, or confusing. Example: Oozing slowly across the floor, Alex noticed the salad dressing after the cap fell off the bottle. Is Alex oozing? No…

How to Fix Misplaced Modifiers
You can generally fix a MM by moving the modifier to a more sensible place in the sentence, generally next to the word it modifies. Example: Oozing slowly across the floor, Alex noticed the salad dressing after the cap fell off the bottle. FIXED: Alex noticed the salad dressing oozing slowly across the floor after the cap fell off the bottle.

Dangling Modifiers A dangling modifier is a word or phrase that modifies a word not clearly stated in the sentence. Example: Playing pool in the basement, nobody could hear the sounds of the game upstairs. Who is playing pool in the basement?

How to Fix Dangling Modifiers
Name the correct doer of the action. EXAMPLE: As Andrea and Terry played pool in the basement, nobody could hear the sounds of the game upstairs.

Identify the following as DM, MM, or No Error in the space to the right; then, fix the sentences accordingly On his walk home, Jake found a gold man’s watch.
