2. WHAT IS IT? Service-Learning Scholars:
Service-Learning Scholars is a rigorous and rewarding program that supports and recognizes USU students in addressing real community needs.
Service-Learning Scholars:
apply their academic knowledge and skills to identified community issues
develop leadership and organizational skills
simultaneously meet their educational goals and make a difference in their community
receive recognition for integrating community service into their academic experience

3. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
• Must have an overall 3.0 GPA.
• Must have two full academic years left until graduation.*
• Demonstrated commitment to community service. 2+

4. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS • Participate in orientation workshop
• Participation in 2 Service-Learning Scholars events each year
• 400 hours documented service (AGS)
• 9 SL course credits
• Check-in with advisor each semester
• Capstone Project
Hours must meet a recognized community need through a non-profit or government agency, or provide service to the USU community. Service must be performed without hourly wage or academic credit.
Can be fulfilled by taking SL designated courses or by creating an individual SL class with your professor. Signed contracts must be submitted to the CCESL office within the first 4 weeks of the course. Prior SL credits CAN be applied to the program.
Scheduled meeting through CCESL office – must check-in each semester to receive pre-priority registration

5. CAPSTONE PROJECT
The capstone project should be sustainable and leave a lasting impact.

Capstone Reflection Piece
The capstone is the culminating activity of the SL Scholars program. It must integrate the student’s academic interests (major/minor) with an identified community need. A successful capstone leaves a long-term impact on the community and the student.
During the final semester, the scholar will develop a capstone reflection piece to be shared at the graduation banquet. This can be a poster, slide show, video, website or report showcasing the capstone project.
