Overview ACCELERATE is a proposed partnership project from three Welsh universities and the Life Sciences Hub Wales, supported by the Welsh Government’s Health and Social Services Group £24 million budget with co-funding requested from the WEFO ERDF Research and Innovation call and partner match Final business planning stage, aiming to secure approval by end of March 2018

ACCELERATE aims To support and accelerate the translation of ideas from the health and care system into new technology products and services To accelerate the deployment and adoption of new technology products and services into health and care, to create lasting economic value in Wales

ACCELERATE objectives
ACCELERATE will use a range of approaches, co-ordinated and structured as an all-Wales system: an open collaborative innovation model to present health challenges and needs externally, inviting new technology solutions a living laboratory approach to test and refine economically viable, real world solutions a managed pipeline of service-user, clinician and academic led innovations, ensuring a blend of “technology-push” and “market-pull” approaches

ACCELERATE engagement
ACCELERATE will engage widely throughout Wales, supported by established business development capability reaching through sector value and supply-chains ACCELERATE will be co-ordinated through the Life Sciences Hub Wales, in order to present a single all-Wales ‘front door’ for innovation and external engagement To retain sectoral and regional focus, and to link to organisational expertise, ACCELERATE will deliver targeted development projects through the three thematic centres

ACCELERATE case study Unmet clinical need focused on bedside technologies Company proposes new clinical innovation for the bedside testing of infection ACCELERATE assesses the needs of project before agreeing a detailed plan with HTC, ATIC, CIA HTC provides expertise to develop the technology to optimise the efficacy of infection identification Following optimisation ATIC provides research and technical expertise to develop an initial prototype Private sector design and manufacture will be engaged through the LSHW to progress development CIA will enable the pilot testing of the prototype in a hospital environment Project is reviewed by ACCELERATE to assess the impact (e.g. creation of new IP or new to market products
