1 Why Trades should be promoted more in high schools!

2 High School Educators Most Educators, and the public at large, agree that a high school diploma by itself isn’t good enough to be able to compete in today workforce.

3 Statistically, it is proven that, on average, a person with only a high school diploma makes significantly less than a person with a Bachelor (typically 4 years) degree.

4 High School Educators Therefore, most Educators have stressed going to college to their students.

5 High School Educators What educators don’t know is that there are many avenues…THE TRADES (for example)… to better wages and great careers that students might not necessarily need the traditional 4 year college degree!

6 For Example: Trade Programs Accredited Certification Programs
One year Certificate Programs Two year Certificate Programs Two year diploma (AA degree) Apprenticeship Program

7 Accredited Certifications
Certification stating that you can perform a certain job duty. Can be obtained through specific schools or institutions. Example: Building Inspector Pipe welder

8 One and Two Year Certifications
1 to 2 year(s) certification programs in a specific field of study. Can be obtained through Community College or accredited institutions. Example: Carpenter Machinist

9 Two year Diploma (AA degree)
Two year programs in a specific field of study. Obtained through Community College or accredited institutions Example: Mechatronics Surveyor

10 Apprenticeship Program
Student gets paid while he learns! Obtained through a union or nonunion program tied to a specific trade. Usually 4 years to complete Example: Electrician Plumber

11 Local Trade Opportunities
Linn Benton Community College (LBCC) Some example of Certificate and AA degrees in the Trades! Mechantronics Welding Machining Diesel Mechanic Central Electric Training 4 year union apprenticeship program for electricians.
