Saw itself as a caretaker government and did not propose any dramatic changes Showed strength during the July days but discredited after the Kornilov affair Petrograd soviet Assembly of workers and soldiers under influence of SR and Mensheviks in the beginning but later Bolsheviks take control. Lenin’s April thesis gathers support to the Bolsheviks and Lenin sets the course on a second revolution. The Kornilov affair convinces Lenin that Bolsheviks should try to seize power

Kept promising a constituent Assembly. Recognises Poland’s right to Independence. Finland and Ukraine. Capital punishment abolished. Kerensky offensive June 1917 a failure. - July Days finish the Bolsheviks…? Society Shortages of food and fuel In Petrograd. Newspapers, books and Pamphlets back in circulation. 8 point programme restored Freedoms including right to Strike and civil/religious freedoms. Bolsheviks calling for “Peace, Land and Bread” - Recognition of Trade Unions. Alexander Kerensky A “Democratic Windbag”? Economy Peasants start to seize land from nobles. Over 1000 illegal attacks on land in July 1917 Inflation shot up with wages unable to keep Pace. Government granted an 8 hour day in an attempt To restore discipline.
