A Self-Healing Gel Combining Dynamic Boronic Esters and Polyrotaxane
Because of the mobility of its β-cyclodextrin rings (C, in blue), gel 1, which combines both mobile and dynamic bonds (A), displays faster self-healing than its non-interlocked counterpart (gel 2, B), which relies solely on segmental mobility (D) to bring the reactive groups (blue polymer and orang linker) into close proximity. Red arrows indicate the direction of diffusion and conformational change.
