All I Ever Needed to Know About Physics I Learned from Road Runner Cartoons
Intro to Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner
2
This is a pretest to see how much you already know about physics…
3
Write down the questions in red, then watch the clip then answer the question.
Balloon and anvil Insert Intro movie here 1. Do all things fall at the same rate?
4
Is This Possible? Why or why not?
Rolling Boulder Could the boulder ever end up higher than it started? (Explain) Insert RollingBoulder movie here
5
How about this? Why or why not?
Coyote Cannonball 3. When two forces act on each other, the _____________ one moves the most. (heavier or lighter) Insert HumanCannonball movie here
6
What are the good and bad physics of this?
Fan Powered Sail 4. Why can’t Wile E. turn the corner? Insert FanPoweredSail movie here
7
What are the good and bad physics of this?
Giant Rubber Band 5. What type of energy does Wile E. give to the rubber band? Insert GiantRubberBand movie here
8
What are the good and bad physics of this?
Log Tunnel Static Equilibrium 6. What evidence supports the idea that Wile E. has more mass than Roadrunner? Insert BallAnvil movie here
9
What would be the effect of adding a second fan?
Outboard Motor 7. What direction should the coyote move after falling off the cliff? Hint (not straight forward) Insert FanPoweredSail movie here

The Cartoon Laws of Physics:
Any body suspended in space will remain in space until made aware of its situation. Everything falls faster than an anvil. All principles of gravity are negated by fear. As speed increases, objects can be in several places at once. Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter.
12
The Real Laws of Physics:
Newton’s Laws of Motion Conservation of Energy Conservation of Momentum Conservation of Angular Momentum Newton’s Universal Law of Gravity

Roadrunner fun facts Roadrunners are prey for hawks, house cats, raccoons, snakes, and skunks, not coyotes! Roadrunners can attain speeds of 17 mph. The roadrunner makes a series of dovelike coos dropping in pitch, as well as a clattering sound. It reabsorbs water from its feces before excretion. A roadrunner catches a rattlesnake by the tail, cracks it like a whip and repeatedly slams its head against the ground till dead Its extreme quickness allows it to snatch a humming bird or dragonfly from midair.
