Everything in the country is divided equally to the people. Karl Marx the inventor Of the idea The government decides who gets what in the country

4 Types of government Monarchy Oligarchy and autocracy
Government is run by a royal family and power is passed down the family A group (oligarchy) or one (autocracy) is in power and makes ALL the decisions for the people

5 How are governments ruled
Parliamentary federal Government where the legislature has all the power to make decisions over the leader Divide the powers between the central government and local government

6 How are governments ruled
unitary confederate The country is one unit and everything and everyone is treated equally The states have the power of decisions and the central government has very little power to make decisions

Executive- president and his surrounding advisors (cabinet) Legislative- senate and house of representatives Judicial- supreme court

14-allowed all people protection under the Constitution 15-allowed African American males to vote 19-allowed women to vote 24- stopped forcing anyone to pay to vote 26-allowed 18 years old to vote

11 Types of law Civil- law relate to private citizens (divorce, property fights) Criminal- law relating to people who have committed a crime (murder, robbing a bank) Constitutional- laws that relate to rights in the constitution (religion laws) Military- laws for people in the military (yelling at your commanding officer aka boss)

13 COURT CASES Plessy v. ferguson Brown v. board of education
Reversed the Plessy v. ferguson court case Supreme court ruled that separate for races was NOT equal Black man sued because he could not go into the white train car Supreme court ruled that separation by race was legal as long as the options were equal

14 COURT CASES  Miranda v. arizona Gideon v. wainwright
Established the “Miranda law” where people who are arrested must be read their rights He did not know that he could choose NOT to talk and had the right to a lawyer He went free because his rights were violated and his confession could not be used Gives everyone the right to an attorney regardless if they can afford one or not

15 COURT CASES  Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier Tinker v. des moines
In a school paper, the principal censored two articles Supreme court says that the school paper is property of the school and censorship is allowed Students wore black armbands to protest the Vietnam war while in school Supreme court said students can express their freedom of speech as long as it does not present a disruption or safety issue

The supreme court has the right to review decisions made by the legislature to see if they abide by the constitution
