The Monster’s Lair Word Connotation Snake-like Snakes are frightening and associated with the devil Read the description of Grendel’s Mother’s lair with your groups. Together, create a T-chart. On one side, list all of the words that contribute to the mood of the description (eight words minimum). On the other side, list the connotations of these words. Remember, connotations are the ideas or emotions associated with the word outside of its technical definition. For example, guest vs intruder, or frugal vs stingy.

Find evidence from the text to support Beowulf’s epic hero qualities. For each box, you need to write a short 3-5 sentence paragraph that includes context, a supporting quote, a citation (Raffel pg#), and an explanation of your supporting quote. Complete the Anglo-Saxon Poetry Devices activity. Find examples from the text that prove your knowledge of how the Anglo-Saxons used these devices. Quote examples directly from the poem with proper MLA citations (Raffel pg#).
