6. Parent Involvement
District-Wide Parent Advisory Council - Representatives from the PAC of each school meet twice a year at the end of the first and second semester. The purpose is to review and share the district vision.
Education Committee - The members meet four times a year. It’s focus is to discuss and collaborate on educational excellence and student success through ongoing dialogue, planning and evaluation.
Booster Club - Supports student activities by organizing events and raising money for the benefit of all our students. The Booster Club serves a similar function that a PTA serves at other schools.

Our mission is to share, connect, and engage parents to the programs and resources available to CHSD218 families in the hopes of empowering both parents and students to take ownership of their education and future.
New to our district this year-PARENT ACADEMY. We will be using all three of our campuses

11. Why did we adopt a new policy?
The District 218 Board of Education adopted a grading policy in June This policy will ensure that students’ grades reflect learning and mastery of course skills and objectives. We began investigating this shift at least four years ago. Other districts across the country are adopting similar policies. As stated in our district values, we want to support and challenge each student with high expectations. Additionally, we want grading practices to be consistent across departments. Therefore, we believe that a uniform grading policy that emphasizes student mastery of course objectives with a retesting component strongly supports our shared vision values of high expectations and equity and opportunity.

12. How will my semester grade be computed?
Semester Grade Breakdown
65% Common Unit Assessments and/or Other Major Unit Assessments or Tests
20% Other Assessments
(i.e. quizzes, labs, essays, portfolios, performances)
15% Practice (i.e. homework, class assignments)

13. Which assessments can be retaken and what does the student need to do?
Any assessment in the 65% category can be retaken, regardless of the initial grade. In other words, major assessments like common unit assessments can be retaken. Re-test policies differ by department. Please make sure you get a flyer.

14. When and where will a student retake an assessment?
Teachers will communicate retake deadlines. If many students need to retake an exam, it may be administered in the classroom. Other options include taking the retest with the teacher after school or in our Testing Centers so as not to miss instructional time in class.
Which grade will be recorded if students take advantage of a retake?
The higher grade shall prevail.

Getting involved in your student’s school is key to a successful academic journey for your student.
Helps to make both students and parents feel more connected to the school and more aware of what is going on while in school.
Parent volunteers offer a huge resource and support base for the school community while showing their kids the importance of participating in the larger community.
