1 2 Kings 5… Naaman: Commander of the army of Syria A mighty man A leper He was healed of his leprosy, thus proving there was a prophet of Jehovah God in Israel & that there was no God in all the earth, except in Israel (2 Kings 5:8, 15).

2 “If You Had Been Naaman”
(2 Kings 5:1-19)

3 If You Had Been Naaman… Would You Have Not Wanted to Do Anything for Salvation? (2 Kings 5:1-10) Naaman could be cleansed, but there was something he needed to do first! When he heard the conditions, he did not want to have to do anything! Man has a much greater problem today! (Rom. 3:23; 6:23)! One must hear (Rom. 10:14-17), believe (Mk. 16:15- 16), repent (Acts 2:38), confess (Matt. 10:32), and be baptized (Acts 22:16) to have their sins washed away.

4 If You Had Been Naaman… Would You Have Been Angry? (2 Kings 5:11-12)
Naaman was upset because the truth concerning how to be cleansed was not what he wanted to hear. Many today will get angry over being told what they must do. There is no reason to get angry. You cannot change the truth of God’s word.

5 If You Had Been Naaman… Would You Have Said, “I Thought?” (2 Kings 5:11) Many have “thought” that God expects men to merely believe in Jesus (faith alone) to receive the remission of sins (cf. Acts 2:38; Jas. 2:14-24) Many have “thought” that accepting Jesus into their heart by saying a sinner’s prayer is Scriptural (passage?) Many have “thought” a lot of things… (Prov. 14:12) One’s thinking needs to be conformed to God’s way of thinking; not the other way around! (1 Cor. 2:1- 16; Eph. 3:14-21)

6 If You Had Been Naaman… Would You Have Wanted A Substitute? (2 Kings 5:12) If Naaman substituted one of the rivers in Damascus for the Jordan, would he have been cleansed? Lord’s Supper on “special occasions” (cf. Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 11) Play instead of sing (cf. Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:19) Doctrines of men on how to be born again (cf. Jn. 3:3-5) Denominational practices instead of God’s pattern of work for church (1 Tim. 3:15; Eph. 4:16; Rom. 15:25-27) “I’m okay, you’re okay” attitude (cf. 2 Tim. 2:15)

7 If You Had Been Naaman… Would You Have Obeyed? (2 Kings 5:13-14)
Even though Naaman got angry, said “I thought” and wanted to substitute, he finally did the right thing after his servants talked some sense into him. He finally did the right thing, and obeyed! If you had been Naaman, would you have obeyed?

8 If You Were Naaman, What Would You Do?
Naaman did not want to do anything for his cleansing… He got angry about being told what to do from another… He had a preconceived notion about how he would be cleansed… He thought substituting part of the conditions would be acceptable… But he finally obeyed!! Naaman then became grateful, knowing the one true God (2 Kings 5:15-16)!!

9 If You Were Naaman, What Would You Do?
Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" 5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. John 3:3-5 (NKJV) And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.' Acts 22:16 (NKJV) There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1 Peter 3:21 (NKJV)
